First time poster here, hoping I can get some help. I've decided to replace the siding on my cottage, and put in a deck at the same time. In looking for a low-maintenance solution for either (or both), I came across this stuff called GemThane. It's actual wood, with like an industrial strength coating on it. Looks like paint, but is supposed to protect for as long as I live (or something to that effect!).
The wife and I did a little dance at the prospect of not having to paint every friggin three years.
At face value it's a miracle product, but I'm always cautious. The idea in getting it would be that I could spend my summers getting intoxicated by drinks instead of paint fumes. So don't want to use the stuff and find out it's not quite as miraculous as promised.
Any help or comments are very much appreciated. Cheers.
GemThane is pretty much as close as you're gonna get to your "miracle" product. It's got a polymer coating on the wood. So basically, nothing - water, sun, grease - can touch it.
And you're right about the low maintenance. Where painted decks and siding tend to start to look weathered and faded after a few years, this GemThane stuff continues to look brand new for years and years.
Not sure where you're located, but I believe it's only sold in Ontario, Canada.
