fabricating a curb to set a pyramid glass skylight

The latest I've gotten on the subject of covering my 2x4 pyramid glass or polycarbonite/acrilic sheet roof over a cupola, is that it would be best to construct a curb to lay it on. I've yet to see detailed info on this online, but I'm still looking. Thought I'd take a break and see if somebody here has information on it. Specifically, can it be done out of 2x material, or should it be metal. I know the flashing is critical, and not quite sure about how it is supported if not by the existing framework. Thanks for any help!
