Decks

40 years ago I built a deck using beams and no joists. the code said beams 4 ft on center...I put them 3 1/2 feet on center so decking would be more solid. is this still an okay way to go without the need to also use joists ?

i plan to use 3/4 inch thick ipe mahogany this time...last tiem useed 1 1/2 thick redwood

All depends on the species group for their rating, page # 195: http://books.google.com/books?id=idB...floors&f=false

This is normally for interior floors with a possibly different load rating, check with your local Building Department.
The new Deck Code: http://www.lancova.com/deckinfo.pdf A lot has changed in the ledger attachment, piers, footings, bolting, etc.

Be safe, Gary

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
