Deck as impervious surface
Having difficulty getting the county to approve a deck as my subdivision's rated for 22% of the lot as impervious surface. Well I'm already at 23% or so and they're counting the proposed deck (no roof, etc.) as additional impervious surface. I'm arguing it's not. There's gaps between the decking. Ground underneath will still be absorbing water as normal. Anyone else run into this issue?
Re: Deck as impervious surface
You may end up hiring a lawyer to argue your point, but I would get exact explanation from the code officer.
Sometimes they convince themselves that you are right when trying to explain.
Besides often they are confused and just say no before thinking it out.
You are correct a proper built deck with spaced planks is not impervious, might have a slight pooling problem though, unless you plan a proper drainage.
