conc pavers over conc slab ?

My friend tells me we can lay down 4"x8"x2" concrete pavers right over the existing concrete patio slab since the added 2 inch height is not a problem. Is he correct, and if so, do we use mortar mix and a notched trowel to lay them in ?
I know the thin pavers are best for this, but already have the thicker ones.
Thanks for the help.

Having a concrete base for paving stones is ideal. No chance for future settling.
There could be a problem if the slab is cut into sections. If so, one slab may settle more than the other.
If the slab is cut, I would suggest cutting the stone to match at the same place.
You would need to have the perimeter anchored to keep it all from spreading.
