cement board

I have a BIS panorama, airtight, wood burning fireplace. I studded the surround with metal studs and covered the area with Durock New Gen cement board right up to edges of the stove. I now read that the NFPA do not consider this product a non-combustible! I called USG support and was told that they do not recommend any board material as a fireplace surround? They also said that product was fire-rated for 125F I'M CONFUSED! I thought was the whole reason to use cement board and not drywall. Even plywood will not take fire at 125F
Does anyone have any ideas?

I would suspect this issue is out gassing...in other words, what kind of fumes are giving off when it gets hot.

Why not look at the MSDS for the product?
