Building BIG chicken coupe.

Hello all. First time posting. I was seeking advice on the roofing problem I'm having with my chicken coupe build. The size of this thing is L:25ft W:9ft 6in D 4ft. I am having issues with the roof. Have decided to leave little over half of the roof open (as in no would coverings) and use chicken wire to go over the top of it. Few questions. First is the size just to big to be practical? Second. Should I use something more then just the chicken wire? (Wire is 20ga 1in gaps) if needed I can take pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pictures always help. How many chickens do you propose to raise? That will determine the size of the coup. The open roof area is fine as they need sunshine and like to bask in the warmth. Have you made provisions for water and food that makes it easy for you to handle? How about laying areas. They like their privacy. How are you treating the base? Will it be secure against the ground so animals can't get in to kill your chickens?

Re: Building BIG chicken coupe.

As Larry asked, how many chickens? I painted the roof on some coops [commercial] back in the 70s that were a 1/4 mile long. I'd make the actual coop part about a quarter of the overall size with some of the 'open' area roofed.

Are your chickens taking your custom designed coupe to a car show?

The first 2 pictures are if the current homes for them. The 3rd is of the upright posts. 4th one is of the inside. There are lots of holes in the the floor of this. I was planning on taking dirt from our old horse pins and using it to fill the wholes and level it out a bit. Also was planning on putting current homes inside the new one. This "new one" was an old dog kennel but have since gotten moved to a better location.

Ayuh,.... Pictures help, Alot,....

I'd think, to cover the far open area, yer gonna need a ridge pole, or some sorta support for the chicken wire,.....
The wire screen will Sag, Badly without some ridged supports across such a wide span,....

Lighter wire is better, less weight to support,...

Is the little chicken house gonna be under the roof, or out under the wire,..??
If out under the screen, it can be put to use, supportin' the overhead wire,....
