Build a stair on rocky grounds

Hi,

I would like to build an outside stair that goes down around 15 feet, but the area is a solid rock, i have soil covering that ranges from 6 to 24 inches. Each time i try to install a 4 feet pile, i hit the rock. Is there any suggestions how to install the stairs on rocks ?

Is your stairs going to lay totally in the dirt or just the end of the stairs resting on dirt?

You plan the staircase and where it will hit the ground. You provide the landing by engineering a level pad. Maybe it's 4 sonotubes down to bedrock with an integrated pad formed on the ground. The sonotube lengths might vary, but stable is stable.

You could use a footer instead of a pile.
