best way to heat old mountain house???

My mom lives in an OLD house in the mountains, only heat is a wood burning stove. House is not insulated well and has old electrical wiring. Any advise on best/inexpensive heat source to add so she doesn't have to rely on wood? thanks

About the only other heat you will be able to get is propane. Not cheap, but not the work of burning wood either.

Still wood, but would a pellet boiler work for you?

Nothings going to be cheaper than wood, and you'll need a cheap fuel if the place is uninsulated. What climate is this in?

Wood pellets are a little more expensive than cordwood, but much cheaper than fuel oil or propane.

Frankly the first thing I'd do is spend money insulating. You'll make it back in no time with the energy prices these days.
