Backfill for concrete pad

Here is a picture of the subject...

The backfill and concrete pad needs to go from the edge of the concrete block out to the wood 8x8 supports. I was thinking of just getting some rock delivered and pushing it in there with a tractor and box blade and leveling the best I can so the concrete workers can pour the pad. OR would you have a concrete block retaining wall built in to box it in ? The amount of backfill needed is around 16" deep. I know we should probably just get contractors out here to get suggestions but I know there many different ways to skin a cat and wanted to hear any suggestion from here first.
