I am finishing a house. In insulating an attic that will not be used, is it ok to place plywood on top of the attic floor joists and place the insulation on top of the plywood. This would create a dead air space which I have read is a good insulator.
Insulation has many, many little dead air spaces in it. It's a far more effective insulation in the same amount of space. Why not simply blow in insulation, or use batts in between the joists? You can always stick more in on top of the joists.
