4x4 corner post bracket

After much searching for a mounting bracket for my 4x4 wood fence post to mount on my concrete brick paver raised deck, I finally decided to take my E-Z Base (made by Strongtie) to a welder. I had him cut off one leg of the bracket and re-weld it on the side 90 degrees from the other leg and "wa-la" I now have a very strong corner mounting bracket that looks very professional and is very strong. Course it had to be painted where all the cutting and welding was done but it looks great. I had the guy do three of them for my project. Problem solved. I don't know why Strongtie doesn't make these for re-sale.

Kudos for diy.

Just a pointer. These metal parts are fairly thin. I'm not sure that welding and modifying are good for them. They are designed for certain amount of abuse, and changing the angles may take its "brace/reinforcement" characteristics out. Also they are zinc protected, esp for contact with treated lumber. Paint may not be enough protection.

The E-Z base brackets are pretty heavy guage (1/8" Thick). Also, my fence is made to have significant "breathing space" so wind loads are minimized. And finally, the fence is only 45" tall around the raised patio. The paint issue with the zinc protection is something I hadn't considered, so I will check that out before recoating the weld areas. Thanks for the info.
