The Area Moment of Inertia = I = (b(h^3))/12 = 5.5(3.5^3)/12 = 19.7 inches^4
E is typically 0.8 to 2.2 MPSI

For L = 6' and E = 800,000 my spreadsheet tells me 30,000 pounds.

A post is a type of column. The allowable load on a column is usually controlled by buckling, unless the column is very short. Maximum allowable column loading when controlled by buckling is a function of the unbraced length, the eccentricity of the load, the slenderness ratio of the column, the material properties of the column, and the required safety factor. You cannot determine the allowable load on a column until you have established each of these factors.

You could make a 1/10th scale model. Using .35", .55" and 7.2" the column should collapse at 'around' 300#.
