transformer next to panel


I see this often, and also in my own house. What exactly is this for, is it for the door bell?

Usually Yes (bare transformer), or an alarm system (plug in)

Most common used for doorbell set up and typically they are useally on 16 Volts AC some run at 12 or 24 volts so watch out on that part if you want to upgrade the doorbell and the size of transfomer most doorbell transfomer useally are about 20VA { voltamps } but you can get larger one if you have more than two doorbell units or a very powerfull doorbell unit.
