too may wires in light fitting !

I've just replaced the light fitting at the top of my stairs. I didn't take note of the wiring on the old unit ( thicko ! ) now I find Ive got four red wires. I've wired one in the normal way and the other three put to a connector and covered it in electrical tape. The light works from both switches , top and bottom of stairs, but the ceiling lights in two other rooms upstairs wont work now.

I've obviously wired it wrong but as I don't really understand electrics I don't know how to correct it.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance

You lost a hot feeder

mark the wires you just hooked up

one of the extra wires is a feeder to the other lights and it needs the hot leg
