I'm replacing the garage panel and ran into a problem. The spacing between this stud is only 14.5 and the new panel won't fit.

Instead of recessed mounting my next option is to surface mount it. Is it ok to do this?

Re: Surface mount garage panel?

Many panels are 14.25 inches wide to fit between studs. Surface mount should not be an issue.

Re: Surface mount garage panel?

thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, whoever installed this ran wires along the side of the studs taking up that valuable 1/4". Panel is 14.75, stud opening is exaclty 14.5.

7 hours later, the panel was surface mounted and power is back to the house. It's more work than it appears. Not really plug and play.
