Replacement wall switch for small box

This old house has small volume metal boxes with metal conduit. The original SPDT switch I want to replace has a standard size bracket, but a very small body. It easily fits the box, but a modern switch has a larger body and terminals in different locations. Even if it fits, the wires may not reach.

Is there a source for old house electrical?

It sounds like you might have "despard" switches.

Re: Replacement wall switch for small box

No, I believe these are Pass & Seymore, circa 1930s. The internals of the switch are different from the modern rocker contact design. Instead they use a fan-shaped wiper which allows the switch body to be narrow. It is about the same size as the ones you posted.

I see the despard style is P&S, and available from several places along with the vertical mounting strap I would need, thanks.
