Sort of has to do with electrical so I will post here. The previous owner of our house went a little crazy with recessed flood lighting, we have 56 to be exact! Which would be fine if the house was larger that 900 sq ft haha
When up in the attic I noticed no block outs of the insulation, the insulation is over all the lights. I assume this is a fire hazard? What is the correct approach to fix the problem, just cut a section of the insulation away from the lamps?
The correct approach would be to see if IC, insulation contact, housing were used. Check for a label either inside or outside the housing for the IC listing. If they were you have no issues. If non-IC housing were used you will need to remove the insulation 3" from the housings. This will contribute to higher energy bills, but does remove the fire hazard.
