Outdoor J box install for flood light

Hey guys quick question,

Bought an outdoor (grey hard plastic almost rubber ) J box from HD to install a new flood light line. Should the box be recessed in the wall or can it sit on the wall screwed mounted in with the rubber waterproof gasket?

I ask because I have seen it done both ways in different videos.

Thanks

If it is gasketed, it is usually okay for exterior use.

Re: Outdoor J box install for flood light

can be on the surface if its an outdoor box,

after installation i normally silicone around the top and sides of the box but not the bottom, i leave the bottom as is in case any water or moisture gets in it has a way to leak out

That box is surface mount only. Just what the doctor ordered. They make metal ones as well.
Make sure you use the threaded plugs (should be included with the box) in each hole that's not being used.
There is no need for any sealant unless you are OCD.

I'm the same way. I used thread tape on mine when I wired my gazebo here at my house.

I didn't even think about using pipe tape on the threads, good call!
