Read it again! I never said it was LEGAL, I said they would let you "get away with"! They being the AHJ here in Dade County Florida

Back in the 70's it was very common to find the grounds twisted together with no wirenut.

well, I know the only thing I can get away with in my jurisdiction is a legal install . I figured that was your implication. I'm sorry for offending you. I didn't realize your inspectors were so lax in enforcing the code. Not my fault they are slouches.

I wish it were! Mechanically tie grounds is one of those items I can pretty much write on an inspection list before I ever get out of the truck. I write that item several times a week, and it is nearly always electricians. You wouldn't believe the amazed looks that some of them actually give me. Of course, homeowners do it too.
