Mount Ceiling Fans to 3" insulated aluminum panel roof

Need to mount ceiling fans to a 3" thick insulated aluminum roof that does not have the fan beams inside. Concerns over leaking and sufficient support topside to prevent pull through?

Take a steel plate (a 1900 or 2100 box blank plate will do) and drill a couple of holes in it that align with the mounting holes of a box suitable for fan support.

You will have to drill a couple of holes from the ceiling inside completely through to the roof. Use the steel plate for reinforcing support. We use urethane caulk on the top plate to keep any water intrusion out.

We also double-nut the fan box on the underside to prevent the assembly from trying to crush the ceiling panel. Results using this method have been excellent on past projects.
