Lighting Circuits

In my home I have noticed that built in lights are always on their own circuit. For example, the guest bedrooms share a light circuit with the guest bathroom. The two guest bedrooms share a receptacle circuit and the master bedroom shares lights with the master bath, etc.

Is there a good reason why each room doesn't just have one circuit, or two smaller rooms share for everything?

cost! each room could certainly be on its own circuit but the electrical demand for lighting is typically so low that adjacent rooms are often on the same circuit.

Lighting circuits are often dedicated to only lighting and use 14 gauge wire and 15 amp breakers.

With the high cost and requirements of AFCI's, i generally wire two bedrooms per circuit.... saves on cost, and bedrooms are such low powered required areas....
