Light switch keeps trippin breaker

We are trying to hook up this light fixture. We have the fixture hooked up and then wired the two light switches up. White on top Black on bottom. Everytime we turn the breaker on it automatically trips before we do anything.

Assuming you have this circuit switched, you've probably passed between 400 A and 10,000 A through the switch for one or two cycles of 60 Hz power. It's a few milliseconds.

The switch might be clobbered but carrying this much current is less stressful on the switch than switching this much current.

Depending on how comfortable you are with electricity you can hook up an incand. lamp for troubleshooting purposes and prevent breakers tripping and ruining switches.

Unless you wired these switches in a switch loop the white should not connect to the switch. Can you describe the path of the cables and how you made your connections?
Answers based on the National Electrical Code. Local amendments may apply. Check with your local building officials.

sounds like a dead short

sounds like you don't have it wired back to the panel right....i just had the same problem....make sure your switches are the power at the switch or up by the light....2 pole switches are linear so hot power to swith black. switch white pole to lightwire black....the white from the light should go back to the panel...and grounds twisted off......

We need to know how you made all the connection for this circuit. Sounds like a switch loop where you matched all the colours and are creating a dead short.
