LED Lights Flash when Off!

Hi,

I had some hologen puck lights installed under my kitchen counters. I wanted to replace them for one reason or another and went and got some "advice" as to what I needed. I have attached photos of the lights for reference.

Anyway, I unplugged the lights, leaving the remaining wiring (they are hardwired to a dimmer switch) and connected the new lights. All seemed to work well until I go to switch them off and they just flicker/flash rather than going off.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers
Glenn

It sounds like the dimmer isn't working right. Disconnect the dimmer. See what happens then.

Does the switch have a pilot lamp built in? Another cause for flashing of CFL and LED's.

This is the switch (attached). I'm going get a "normal" non-dimming switch and try that. Thanks guys.

Changing to regular switch is worth trying. I'd also try pulling the switch
and receptacle out of the box and separating the wires as far as possible
and trying it that way. Takes very little induced voltage to make an LED
flicker.

The dimmer is likely not rated for Led lights.

Re: LED Lights Flash when Off!

Are you actually switching the lights off or merely pulling down the dimmer slider when this occurs?

Re: LED Lights Flash when Off!

So the wife says that the dimmer isn't important, so I'm going to get a regular switch and see if that works.

And yes I was switching it off rather than just dimming it down

No reason an incompatible dimmer would be an issue when in the
off position.

What you say makes complete logical sense. However, I had a similar issue as the OP where the lights would flash, even when the switch was turned off. I changed it out for a dimmer that was made for LEDs and no more flashing lights.

Here is the dimmer set up I have.

Just to let you know that I removed the dimmer switch and replaced it with a "normal" switch and it all now works perfectly.

Thanks to all for your help and input.

Cheers
