Installing outdoor recepticle?

I need to install an outdoor recepticle. I have a outdoor box, gfci, and in use cover. Can I mount the box on the wall and just run Romex into the back hole on the box?

Cedar shingles. The box is a wet location outlet box from HD. RIH31LM

I used NM on both outside outlet boxes on the side of my house. The one thing that we did, before screwing down the boxes, was place a nice sized bead of silicone where it would be against the aluminum siding, so that it would seal out any moisture or drafts from getting into the hole that goes through the sill to our basement. Then on the basement side, foamed around the hole to also further seal to keep out ants, etc..

In my area, some inspectors would let it go, some would not. Some inspectors consider the inside of a WP box the same as the inside of exterior conduit...and I tend to agree with them.

You really should use a rigid pipe nipple that enters the house and screw on a plastic bushing.
