Question

How to Wire This RC Motor?

I have no idea what I'm doing, only what I want, which is a fan-powered Pinewood Derby car. I want to be able to power the car on and off. The activation switch will be mounted on the front of the car. The weight of the car against the starting gate will hold the activation switch closed. When the gate drops, the switch will release and the fan should spin. When the race is over, I want to be able to flip the master switch and turn the whole system off until the next race.

I'm considering adding LED lights, which should also turn on when the activation switch releases and fan spins.

Please explain in the simplest terms possible how I should wire these two systems.

Here's your circuit:

--battery--master switch--activation switch---both motor & LEDs---other pole of battery--

You show 1 pole double throw switches (both of them) but you only use 2 of the 3 terminals on them, or use single pole switches which would only have 2 contacts on them.

Won't work. In addition to the unknown confusion caused by showing single throw switches with 3 terminals, you should be able to trace a simple DC circuit from one terminal of the battery through the switches to the loads and back to the other battery terminal. You proposed connection from the battery to the "master switch either creates a dead short or does nothing. You have no return path from the motor back to the battery.

So how do I make it work?
