the support rods shouldn't have to do anything. The plate should set directly on the rock. The support rods act more as positioning rods in this type of installation.

Yep. See that now. Have a spare in the garage and the rock sits right in between plate and trim. Well, gotta pull her down and do it right today. Thanks so much. Lucky for m e you saw the thread and were kind enough to take the time, pictures and all. MIF
