How to Install Recessed Power Outlet in Floor

hi everyone. we want to install a power outlet in the middle of our living room floor so we can plug in table lamps and maybe stereo, etc in the middle of the room rather than thru a wall socket. right now our floor is just a pre-existing concrete slab, in a couple of weeks we will be installing on top of it new flooring, 3/4" plywood and then 3/4" oak. so now would seem to be the right time to plan for installation of a floor outlet. so my question is, what are the physical requirements? is cutting out a hole that goes to 1 1/2" (plywood plus oak) enough to accomodate the box and wiring? or will we need to go deeper and cut a hole into the concret slab? if so, is that a big deal to do (we'd have the help of a professional on all of this).

You'll have to chip out a bit of the slab for the box. I'd recommend getting a box with a divider and have one section for phone/ data. As long as you're doing it, do it all the way. Hubbel makes some nice boxes. When you see the price, you'll do a double take, but consider you'll install it once and it will last.

You will ABSOLUTELY have to cut the floor for the box AND for the conduit run to it from a wall.

Wiremold, Hubbell and T&B are all options you should look at and find which one you like. You can buy any of them at a local electrical supply house.

Plan on, at an absolute minimum, having to chip at least 4" deep for the box itself.
