Help replacing crusty old ceiling light.

We moved in recently. There are four lights in the ceiling of the master bedroom. They are discolored and just ugly. I popped one out and it looks like it is a low voltage light or something. It popped out of a can. I took the can out and there is a metal box, with what might be a transformer. Anyway, I am attaching some pictures, if anyone can tell me what to do I would appreciate it. I bought four new lights that screw into a normal socket, and the new apparatuses to creat the socket if I can get these out. Ideally I could just rewire using the existing wires, but a dreading feeling tells me I cannot do that.
Again, any help would be appreciated.
The picture of the black box was taken in the box the can came out of, and the wires coming out of it go to the light.

Re: Help replacing crusty old ceiling light.

Those are 12 volt halogen lights. The IC designation means they are approved for Intimate Contact with insulation such as is found in attics. They have an internal temperature cutoff switch for further safety. They are a fairly good light with several choices of trims. The housing, exclusive of any trim ring, sells for around $90 and the trims go for anywhere between 20~60 dollar range.
