OP, you still there? Get anything figured out?
It’s been a couple days now.

Re: Half my house is without electricity

After living in our first house for about 10 years with no issues, I started getting flaky electrical stuff going on.

After the meter where the wire went into the house, one of the hot wires had been landed in the lug and then never tightened down. It had incidental contact only. The electrician tightened it up. End of problem.

Re: Half my house is without electricity

My house had the same problem starting with blinking lights and culminating in my night owl wife waking me at 02:30 to report half the lights weren't working. In the morning, I discovered that pressing on the main breaker resulted in the lights coming back on. After pulling the meter, I found one of the connections between the plug-in main breaker & panel back plane was melted. I immediately replaced the entire Crouse Hinds panel with a new Square-D QO panel including a bolt in main breaker. Fortunately, I discovered the problem before it caught fire as my friend the fire chief said was to be expected.

A little online research revealed this is a common problem with plug-in main breakers and especially those sold by Crouse Hinds. An electrician in New England stated the Crouse Hinds panels were so prevalent in his area, he was replacing 2-4 panels a month for the same problem.

It doesn't appear you have the knowledge to handle this problem on your own so start out by asking the power company to check the service, their efforts should be free. If they don't find a problem with their feed up to the meter, call an electrician right away!

Hence my post from yesterday.
Either they got it figured out or they posted to half a dozen forums at once.
