WOW, that's great.
What your proposing is to have a timer on the control wire to the grid.
This makes the most sense yet. i had a feeling a timer controling the full service load wasn't right for this application.

When i buy the ATS $1100-1300 it wouldn't cost more than 200 to get one customize to the above setup.

as far as 2 generators i recently bought 1 just for the storm we had to bower the house.
i feel the 5700 watt gen i bought for 699+tax+ 300 to 400 for basic transfer switch would probably cost the same as the appropriate ats for my other gen. while i usually have 100 gal of gas on hand i usually have around 750 gal of desiel. i would rather have the desiel generator running everything due to it's largeer size. either way i would like grid power at the building.
