Electrical box dimensions?

I am having holes predrilled in sheet metal for 4" octagonal junction boxes. I can't find any exact dimensions anywhere for the mounting holes. Does anyone know these dimensions or is anyone able to point me to where they may be?

Thanks,
Christian

Re: Electrical box dimensions?

You need to commit to a specific make and model.
Dimensional drawings are available from most mfg. some are available online. Here is one example.

Best regards,
Give a box to whomever is making the holes to use as a template.

Best regards,
4inch octagonal is the trade size. But Steel City lists about 40 different models with different combinations of depth, brackets, number of KOs, size of KOs, internal clamps, etc. Some of the mounting holes do move around based on some of these options.

Best bet is RJ's suggestion, give the guy doing the work a box to use as a template and tell him which holes you want to use for mounting. No sense having him drill them all.

Re: Electrical box dimensions?

A 4" octagon box is a 4" octagon box. The mounting holes are 3.5" apart.
There is no mystery here. The only variable is the depth.
