Duel fed 3 way switch

Anybody ever heard of duel fed 3 way switches ? takes 2 breakers to kill it to work on it, only has 2 traveler wires between switches with feeds 1. at the light 2. at the downstairs switch. Heard years ago contractor's wiring old houses ran 2 wire between the switches to save money if they had a lot of houses to do.

Example : Old row houses.

Think I just ran into this any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like some of the stuff I've seen in old knob&tube wiring.

I think I've got a reasonable picture in mind, except that whole part about having to kill two breakers. That part puzzles me.

In any case, it's definitely not legal by current codes.

There are strange ways wire three way switches. None of them involve two separate circuits powering them. This is double wrong.

There is old duel feed 3 ways in some old houses, I did not have that I was confused as hell. It is all straightened out now.

The 3 way was powered through the light. At the downstairs switch box it had a 3 way with a single pole switch combination (one on top of the other) the hot side of the switch side had to have the tabs broke off. It also powered a porch light. The 2 breakers are 1. to feed the light upstairs 2. the other one was for the bottom switch that fed the porch light .. Thus the 2 breakers. WOW you can tell I don't do this every day.

If anybody wants the duel fed 3 way diagram I will try to put it up.
