converting recessed socket to hard wire

I have a recessed ceiling light where i would like to install a hardwired light. Its an island light that i got at lowes. it just has the two black wires and the ground. Is there such a thing as a conversion kit that i can just screw into the socket that has the wires on it, and can just mount the light?

Or, do i need to actually uninstall the recessed light fixture, install a box and then hook it up? I really dont want to screw with having to take it all apart, but i suppose if my wife really needs this light over our kitchen island, then i guess i know what i'll be doing.

thanks

If you screw something into the socket it would still not be called hard wired.

They do make a gizmo that looks like a screw in fuse and screws into a lamp socket and has a 2 prong receptacle in it.

"Swag" refers to a light fixture that is hung from a chain and the chain with wires (cord) continues horizontally to the wall and the cord is then plugged into a receptacle.

Hard wiring means installing a junction box. It is possible that the feed going to the old light does not have a ground but you can still install a new light fixture.
