Clarification on PVC Conduit Depth

Alright,

Everywhere I have read says PVC conduit must be atleast 18 inches deep at the top of the PVC pipe... but I had a electrician come over and tell me it has now changed in the 2008 NEC to 24 inches... can anyone confirm or clarify? I am looking in the NEC I just figured someone that knows it better would know exactly where it is in the NEC

Depends on the application!
Is it going to be at a residence, under concrete, under a building, under a driveway, encased in concrete, etc?

Ask when you pull your permit to ensure you get the proper answer for your locale and application. To my detached garage/workshop this past year was 18" over the conduit - so dug to a 20" trench depth.

Anything one or two family residential is 18" at the most. Even driveways.
