What would be the best "grid", for my lack of a better word, on a tube flourescent fixture? There's the usual jewel type of design which I guess spread out the light, then there's the shiny egg crate kind of grill that has kind of a recessed lighting effect since you can't see the light as much when you look up, then there's the "cloud" kind that's a white transluscent covering. I'm confused about which would be best.

it depends on what you are using them for. Different lenses disperse the light differently and as such one type is generally more effective for any given use.

You want a close approximation to uniform illumination over the area covered unless you're doing a task light.
