Can i trickle-charge my portable generator while test-running it?

Hi- I'd like to test run my portable 4000/3500W genny for a couple hrs today because its had unwitnessed stalls the last 2 times i used it. I currently have power to my house but we're getting Wind storm today so I'd also like to trickle-charge the little starter battery. Can i hook up the trickle charger (to a household power outlet) after i get the genny running to do both tasks at the same time? Thanks.

Your generator should charge the battery when running. I would not put two chargers on one battery at the same time.

Batteries don't like sitting around and not getting used.
If you want your batteries to last longer ?
You gotta use them more.
Regular use ensures maximum life.

I make a practice of running my generator for 30 minutes every two months. Keeps the starter battery charged as well as testin it’s operation.

But there is still a question for me that I wanna find a good answer.

I’ve always heard that charging cordless tool batteries from a jobsite portable generator could ruin the batteries. If fact, I’ve seen it done.

But I’m wondering, with these newer generators with Digital Automatic Voltage Regulation, is this still an issue?
I know that the Inverter generators can charge them just fine, as well as running sensitive electronics.

Some generators do not charge their battery while running. My Generac does not. I have a Battery Tender Jr that I hook up once a month. I test start it every 3 months.
