buzz buzz goes the j box

Hi there,
New to the fourm, but looking for some answers/clues, here is the issue
I moved into a home that has an out building that was completely wired and has its own fuse box and all. It looks like a good install and everything seems to be in order.
Inside the home there is a switch that is at a door that goes to the back yard and when I turn it on, it doesnt do anything.... except buzz in a j box under the house! I dont want to undo all the conections yet as I am not sure where they lead. There looks to be a lead heading twards the out building and maybe to some lights (along a out door path)that dont work.

So my question is, can I test this line at the out building when the switch is on and see if there is power there with some sort of line tester or a remote tester?? If so, what is one of those devices called?

Also, as far as the buzzing that I get when the switch is on, is this a hot wire to ground? or hot touching the box maybe?
Is all of this too much for a DYIer with some electrical savy or should I call out THE MAN on this one?
Thanks,
Woton

What is in the junction box?

A loose connection can give off a soft buzz.

A transformer such as for a doorbell can buzz.

Maybe there is a buzzer (or bell whose clapper doesn't hit properly) inside.

Have you looked under the house while it is buzzing?

Maybe there is an outlet down there and someone left something plugged in?
