Blower Motor problems

My 96 honda civic ac doesnt work on settings 1 and 2 but will on 3 and 4. All of a sudden though it started sounding like it was gona come through the dash the noise was so loud and now wont blow at all. been doing a little research on internet and was wondering if it would be the blower motor or resistor? Gona tear into it in the morning.

Speeds #1, #2, and #3 have a resistor inline to control lower fan speeds. Fan speed #4 does not have a resistor and is "wide open". Some auto fan controls have fused links in the resistor board, meaning the link will open under excessive amperage. A tech who really knows what he/she is doing can sometimes repair these. This sounds as if somewhere in #1, #2, or #3, something shorted out causing the fan to run wide open, then the electrical link was broken. I'm betting on a new resistor board and you will be back running.
