Adding lights with 12-2 vs 14-2

Is it against code to extend a branch of lights w/ 12-2 if it is a 15 amp circuit?

I just added 4 outlets in my garage using 12-2. I have a bunch of it left over and would like to add some lights as well to an existing 15amp light circuit. Do I need to go out and buy some 14-2, or can I use the 12-2?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I couldn't seem to find a thread that went over this.

Not a code issue but it could cause confusion in the future. Go for it.

Back when a roll of 12-2 was $29 I used to use it for lights
Now I use 14-2 for 15a lighting circuits

As stated, there isn't any code problem with using 12-2 on a 15a circuit
