AC substantial guard strips in attic

NEC 2008 320.23 (A). Can anyone provide examples of these substantial guard strips?

I think the "problem" that is referring to is that people place boxes of stuff in the attic. Use the attic for storage.

So you would not want someone to pile all sorts of [who knows what] type of junk in an attic and have it squish or damage the wires.

Or place boards on top of the wires, then place boxes of junk on top of that.

I think I understand the why, I'm just curious if a commercially available product is available, or if it means you construct your own to meet the definition of 'substantial'.

I would think that a piece of 2x lumber placed along the side or sides would be fine. As long as you are higher than the cables and little chance of damage from something being placed on top of the cables.

From what I read this also applies to NM cable.
