Insert the can into the hole and hold it up in place.
Push the clip flush against the can wall so that the tip of the clip is in contact with the top of the drywall.
Slide the clip upwards to lock in place.
Repeat for remaining clips.

After using every tool I own and not being able to get the clips in, I did a web search. Looks simple enough. Used a hydraulic jack, a come along, sledge hammer, chainsaw, jewelers screwdriver What the ???

Looks simple enough, press flat against side and push up with screwdriver.

Check the instructions, for 1/2 - 5/8 drywall, right model number, looked at you tube, all to no avail?? I can not possibly be the only one having this issue.

Then 50 plus years of DIY kicked in. Removed from the can the clip is roughly shaped like a v, applying outward force on the V and make the V about 1/4" wider. Reinstall in can push against side and up with screwdriver (flat not philips), SNAP, done!!

I've had the same problem. Sometimes they snap right into place, other times ....well. I've used a small hammer at times. Once I used a couple of sheet metal screws to hold a clip in place. I'll have to file your tip away in my walking file cabinet. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for the response. When I tried tapping on the screwdriver with a hammer, all it did was bend the can!

The springs might be bent at different angles, Some people would have no problem. I only used 4 fixtures out of one case.
