50 amp breaker

I recently had a the 50 amp breaker trip on my stove, being an old unit I assumed it had a short and was the cause of the tripped breaker, so I had it replaced. Now the breaker will not reset and trips the main coming into the breaker box. Is it possible that the breaker is bad, it is an old one the box is a Murray. Thanks

IF you're tripping the main, you most likely have a problem in the stove or wiring.

The breaker is essentially doing its job in such cases.
