Is there any way you can take and post a picture of each box opened up so we can see the wiring?

With a dead end three way you have all the wires you need in the one box. The hot that was spliced to the white would have been your hot supply. This would go to one side of the new single pole switch. The black on the Common terminal of the three way goes to the light and now goes to the other terminal on the single pole.. The neutral should have already been spliced through.
