Hey, I've been having an issue with my car for awhile now. Everytime I try to shut my car off it wont shut completely off. For some reason it'll go half way and lock my key to where I cant move it any further. I thought it was just me at first... but then I realized I have to slam my drive shaft into park, and try to shut it off. If that doesnt do the trick then I have to restart my car once again put it in reverse.. then drive,... then slam it into park... anyone have an idea what I should do? its really irritating.
There is a Brake, Transmission, Steering Interlock (BTSI) solenoid mounted on the shifter housing. This system does a couple of things. It requires that the brake pedal be depressed before you can shift the car from park into gear. This solenoid also prevents the steering wheel from locking with the car in gear. If the steering wheel cannot go to a lock position, you cannot remove your key. You will need to remove the console and check the linkage. You will probably find it gummed up with a spilled drink.
