Window ac unit wrapped thermostat in insulation

I'm wondering if this is ok or if I'll create a problem. The ac unit would not be cold enough. It was cutting out cuz I believe the thermostat is a bit defective. It shows a temp that isn't correct. I wrapped the thermostat in pink insulation and then taped it up. I moved the thermostat behind the digital controls, where all the wiring is.

Now the dang thing works and stays cold long enough to cool the room. Just making sure I'm not missing something that can bugger up. Thanks!
