What I'm taking from this is that if I'm ok with the venting , which I am, and that if I haven't had any problems yet, which I haven't..... then it's ok to leave it. And Alberta HVAC is scabby.

Why doesn't it just go straight to the wall and out? Why under the concrete floor?

Oh that's just how it looks in the photo. It's a vent that sits on the floor then vents up and outdoors through the rimjoist.
