Mr Cool Mini Split

I am looking into options to heat/cool an 18x24 room I finished. I have a couple estimates from HVAC companies but don't think a 2 ton system is necessary and don't want to spend 5k. I have heard mixed reviews about DIY mini splits, but the GEN 3 Mr Cool systems seem to have good reviews. Has anyone installed one of these systems? Are they truly DIY? Thanks

They are a decent budget brand unit. Your getting about what you pay for.
Don’t get a unit with precharged lines and quick connect fittings. Run your own lines, you’ll need to flair them yourself, leak check with nitrogen, evacuate the system and release the charge. You may need to add additional refrigerant.

Thanks.. Yeah the unit I was looking at has the pre-charged lines. Do they wear out faster?

Another option, they are starting to market inverter, window units. When it is time to replace the mini's I will be looking at them.

The connections tend to leak.
