Frigidaire dehumidifier 70 pint. Can it be saved?

Hi there! Bought a lemon of a dehumidifier back in the later part of 2018. Used it for a bit in 2019 before realizing there wasn’t much water being removed from the air. The water drip from the gravity hose was dried up.

I tried contacting Frigidaire last year through email and phone with no reply. I even tried today with the automated phone service disconnecting before a rep got on the line with me. This year, I tried using it again and it wasn’t long before there was ice build up outside of the dehumidifier at the base of the coils/fins. I couldn’t remove the cover that goes over the filter screen, so following an ice path wasn’t possible. It is now finished thawing in my garage.

All I can say is that the fan works and there is no heavy dust build up on the inside. With the problems it has had and living in MA the dehumidifier has been used very little. Can anything be done since Frigidaire is useless?

It's a refrigeration problem - check the sealed system warranty and try to get a replacement if covered. The repair would cost far more than the unit is worth unless you have the right tools and can do it yourself.

Maybe see if there's an alternative phone number or email address.

I just tried again online. Poor customer service. $300 for a piece of junk. See if they respond.

frigidaire is just the brand, they're all made by crap chinese based companies. midea is probably the biggest player. naturally, they're into selling as much product as possible, not customer service.

to get something decent and made in usa you need to spend closer to $1000 than $300.

or go on kijiji and buy a vintage one with mechanical controls.

I've gone through a couple of Frigidaire Dehumidifiers. Had the same problems you have. I got them replaced....I think the warranty was 3 years? I did it all online. Send an email to [email protected]. Give them all the info i.e.where bought, serial number, etc. They'll ask for a picture of the sticker that is on the machine and pictures of the unit with the cord cut.
Give them the symptoms and or error code, if present.

Frigidaire is not the quality company it once was. They just stick the name on cheap Chinese crap. Toss it and put it down to experience. Or you could take it back to the place you bought it and see what they will do after getting no response from the manufacturer.

It took a couple of emails, but Electrolux responded and is in the process of sending me a new unit. The Frigidaire site was a total waste of time and same for phone support. Thank you for helping me out!
