Commercial Refrigeration Condenser Problem

This isn't really HVAC but similar. I own a deli and my walk in cooler isn't holding temperature. The condenser is on the roof and I found that the condenser fan isn't working properly. I phoned the local repair company I use but they can't help until Monday. Their recommendation was that it was probably a short in the fan motor or possibly a problem with the capacitor located on top of the motor. They were OK with my swapping out the motor myself as long as I didn't zap myself with the charge in the capacitor.

Anyway, I've replaced fan motors on some of my other equipment without trouble. I just don't know how to safely discharge the capacitor. Take a look at this video clip and see what you think. The fan spins free when it is not calling for the fan to run. Any comments would be appreciated. For now I have two fans blowing air through the skid and it actually seems to be working. I have to get through two 90 degree days until I can get parts on Monday.

Looks like a motor problem.
I don’t know what commercial refrigeration company can’t offer emergency calls on weeknights and weekends. Call another company. They probably have that motor on their truck.

The weekend labor cost was ridiculous. I debated letting someone work on it Monday but money is tight so I thought I'd change it out myself, assuming that really is the problem. I seem to be getting by OK running my own fans across the skid until Monday.

Thanks for the reply!

Re: Commercial Refrigeration Condenser Problem

Put a sprinkler on it.
Test the capacitor with your meter.
